From Kanguva to Vaadi Vaasal - Suriya films to look forward to in 2024

Lately, audiences have come to expect only the best from Tamil star Suriya, who has been wowing audiences with some brilliant performances in critically acclaimed films. The actor, who is known to choose different roles, never fails to impress fans with his choice of films and performances. The National Award-winning star is all set to rule the box office in 2024 with some of the most-anticipated releases. From Vetri Maaran’s Vaadi Vaasal to Siva’s Kanguva, the Jai Bhim star is gearing up for the release of some of the most looked-forward-to Kollywood films in 2024. Here's a look:

Kanguva

Directed by: Siva

The upcoming period action drama, helmed by director Siva, is written by Adi Narayana. Starring Suriya in the lead role, Kanguva is one of the most eagerly awaited Tamil film releases. The project marks the National Award-winning actor’s first onscreen collaboration with filmmaker Siva. According to lyricist and screenwriter Madhan Karky, the makers of Kanguva have imagined a fictional world with different clans, a distinctive culture, and a unique god. From the teaser, one can see that Suriya is an ancient tribe leader. Kanguva also stars Disha Patani as the female lead.

Vaadi Vaasal

Directed by: Vetri Maaran

This Vetri Maaran directorial starring Suriya is a period drama that revolves around the traditional sport of Jallikattu. Vetri Maaran has revealed that the film will be set between 1960 and 1970. According to him, the major plot of the movie takes place during the early and late 1960s, when Tamil Nadu was a politically volatile state. The film also stars director Ameer in a pivotal role.

Suriya 43 (Purananooru)

Suriya will be reuniting with his Soorarai Pottru director, Sudha Kongara, for a film that has been tentatively titled ‘Purananooru’. The film is said to be a high-voltage political drama. An old transistor radio, a retro-style microphone and other elements in the promo hint at this. The movie is rumoured to touch on the subject of anti-Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu (the imposition of the Hindi language has been vehemently opposed in the Tamil Nadu since 1937). The movie also stars Vijay Varma, Dulquer Salmaan and Nazriya Nazim.

Rolex

Directed by: Lokesh Kanagaraj

Suriya's character Rolex is the most popular antagonist in the 2022 Kamal Haasan-starrer Vikram. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that he will be making a spin-off film on Rolex, which will go on floors after he completes Karthi’s Kaithi 2, which is also part of the LCU franchise.

Karna

Directed by: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra

Suriya is all set to make his Hindi film debut with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ambitious period epic, Karna. According to reports, Suriya has been roped in to play the role of Lord Krishna, while Vijay Varma has been selected for the role of Karna, and Avinash Tiwary is set to portray Arjuna.
