From Akhanda to Shyam Singha Roy, here are the Telugu OTT releases for this weekend

The Sankranthi 2022 season may have jolted film-enthusiasts with the postponement of two major releases like RRR and Radhe Shyam, though it still gave them a lot to cheer with a flurry of small films, entertainers like Bangarraju, Hero besides digital releases on OTT platforms. While there aren't expected to be any major theatrical releases in Telugu states this weekend, the OTT space looks to compensate the viewers with a series of interesting offerings. 

Akhanda - Disney+ Hotstar

One of the biggest blockbusters in Telugu cinema in 2021, Akhanda reinstated the stamina of actor Nandamuri Balakrishna in drawing audiences to theatres in nooks and corners across the Telugu states and other Indian regions, international locations. Director Boyapati Srinu managed to pack a mass feast with not one but two Balakrishnas in different avatars - one as a do-gooder farmer and the other as an aghora. The terrific storytelling, slick action sequences, fantastic performances and a thunderbolt of a soundtrack by S Thaman contribute to the spellbinding impact.

Shyam Singha Roy - Netflix

Made at over Rs 50 crore budget, the highest ever production cost for a film in the career of actor Nani, Shyam Singha Roy served as a testimony to his consistency in choosing quality scripts all over again. Featuring a huge star cast comrpising names like Sai Pallavi, Krithi Shetty, Madonna Sebastian, Jisshu Sengupta, the film went beyond a staple reincarnation drama template and impressed with its depth in capturing the complexities in interpersonal relationships and the anamolies of the society. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film's story was penned by Satyadev Janga.

Loser Season 2 - Zee5 

If you're in the mood to binge-watch a gripping drama, there can't be a better bet than Loser this weekend. The second season of the sports anthology takes viewers through the tales of three sportspersons Suri Yadav, an air rifle shooter, John, an aspirant cricketer and Ruby Shabana, a former badminton champion who's keen to become a coach. Directed by Abhilash Reddy and Shravan Madla, the show's cast includes Priyadarshi, Kalpika Ganesh, Shashank, Harshith Reddy and Pavani Gangireddy. Take time to watch its first season as well if you wish to understand the characters in greater depth.
