The show, which represents everything good and gives us the coziest vibe, is one of the most globally loved sitcoms—and rightly so. Monica, Rachel, Chandler, Phoebe, Ross, and Joey are more than characters; they’re family. So, as we wrap up another year and find ourselves on the brink of New Year’s Eve, many of us couch potatoes will celebrate December 31 in our living rooms with a rerun of the sitcom. Now, what if we told you there might be another streaming platform where you can watch it?
Friends to Stream on Prime Video?
Starring Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc, Friends has become a cult classic over the years. Fans hold it close to their hearts, often calling it perfect. The good news is, alongside Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video might soon join the roster of platforms offering Friends.
Amazon Prime Video recently teased fans on Instagram with a Friendship Day post. The first date mentioned was August 4, 2024—Friendship Day. The second date was December 31, 2024, when they announced they would be celebrating “f r i e n d ship day” again. While the announcement didn’t explicitly confirm the addition of Friends, the unique styling of the word “friendship” gave fans a big hint. The comment section exploded with excitement as fans speculated that Friends would stream on Prime Video. Only time will tell if this is true.
The Friends Trivia
Yes, it’s true. Friends ran for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004, defining an entire decade with its brilliance. The show was loved for many reasons, but one of the most celebrated elements was the chemistry between Monica Geller and Chandler Bing. Fans rooted for the two to get together—and when they did, the cheers were deafening.
Interestingly, the original plan was for Monica to end up with Joey Tribbiani, played by Matt LeBlanc. This was revealed by David Crane, co-creator of the show with Marta Kauffman. Crane shared that Monica and Chandler’s long-term romance wasn’t initially planned.
“When Monica and Chandler went to bed together for the first time in London, the original plan wasn’t for them to become a couple for the rest of the series,” Crane told Entertainment Weekly in September 2019.
“It was one of those things where originally the thought was, ‘Oh, it was just a big, quick, funny mistake. How are they going to get out of that?’ But the more we explored it, the more stories it provided, and it really reinvigorated the show.”
