Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, a former Indian spinner, has criticised the attire worn by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in his upcoming movie, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan.
In a new song titled Yentamma, Salman is seen dancing with co-star Venkatesh Daggubati, wearing bright yellow shirts, sunglasses, and mundus, a traditional South Indian garment.
Sivaramakrishnan, who has played nine Tests and 16 ODIs, tweeted that the use of the mundu in the song was "highly ridiculous" and "degrading" to South Indian culture.
His tweet read, "This is highly ridiculous and degrading our South Indian culture. This is not a LUNGI , THIS IS A DHOTI. A classical outfit which is being shown in a DISGUSTING MANNER."
Pointing out that in the song, the dancers are seen wearing shoes inside a temple, Sivaramakrishnan also sought a ban on the film in the comments section. His comment read, "Nowadays people do anything for money. Won’t they research what is a Lungi and a Dhoti. Even if it’s a set, it’s being projected as a temple. People associated with the movie should realise, no footwear inside the temple premises. Appealing to @CBFC_India to consider to BAN this."
In separate tweets, the former cricketer also emphasised the difference between a dhoti and a lungi.
Yentamma from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan features vocals by Vishal Dadlani and Payal Dev, with an additional rap section by Raftaar.
The song will release worldwide on April 9, 2023, and the film is slated to release on Eid.
