According to a source, Suriya's Vaadivaasal will start filming in December. The movie is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu under his V Creations label and is directed by Vetrimaaran. Notably, Vaadivaasal is based on a book by the late author CS Chellappa, and the national award-winning filmmaker collaborated with C Subramanian, the author's son, and Kalachuvadu, the book's publisher.

The novel is about the traditional Tamil sport of jallikattu and how Picchi, whose father Ambulithevan was killed by the bull, tamed the bull named Kaari.

Earlier, Vetrimaaran turned Poomani's novel Vekkai into the acclaimed Dhanush-starrer, Asuran.

From the Chellappa family, Kannan Sundaram of the Kalachuvadu obtained the rights. “I believe this is the first time a publishing house and a director have successfully negotiated a legal arrangement.”

Before being published as a book, Vaadivaasal was serialised in Chellappa's literary magazine Ezhuthu. Kannan went on to say, “The novel has been published in 26 editions to date since we acquired the rights in 2001. Its popularity was greatly boosted by the demonstration in favour of jallikattu that was held on the Marina.”

Bullfighting enthusiast Chellappa became interested in jallikattu while he was in Vathalagundu in the Dindigul district.

“He was introduced to the sport by his maternal uncle, and he quickly grew obsessed with it. He meticulously documented the sport, the lifestyle of bull-tamers, and the care of the bulls,” recalled Subramanian.

Suriya, meanwhile, is pleased to have completed 25 years in Tamil cinema.

The actor, who recently appeared in cameo appearances in Madhavan's Rocketry and Kamal Haasan's Vikram, has Bala's Vanangaan and an untitled project with Siva of Viswasam fame in his kitty. Tentatively titled Suriya 42, the latter is produced by Vikram-Vamsi and KE Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green. The movie, which is reportedly a large-scale period drama, was written by Adi Narayana and features dialogue by Madhan Karky.

The DoP is Vetri Palanisamy, a regular in Siva's movies, and Devi Sri Prasad is in charge of the soundtrack. The action sequences will be coordinated by Supreme Sundar, with Milan serving as the art director. It should be recalled that Siva and Suriya were originally collaborating. However, once the filmmaker cast Rajinikanth in Annaatthe, the movie was shelved.
