After Thar and Modern Love: Mumbai, Fatima Sana Shaikh is ready to go on to her next project, Sam Bahadur. In the Sam Manekshaw biography, which also stars Vicky Kaushal and Sanya Malhotra as his wife, Siloo Manekshaw, the actor will play the late Indira Gandhi. Working with director Meghna Gulzar is a bigger incentive for Shaikh than stepping into the shoes of the former prime leader.
The actor told Mid Day that she was only interested in the movie because of Meghna. The Dangal expressed her love for the filmmaker by saying that she is good at her craft. It's clear from the meetings Shaikh had with her that she is compassionate and competent. Meghna is completely familiar with all of the characters, and when one sees a woman in charge of a film, it gives you a sense of empowerment. Shaikh is always eager to learn more about filmmaking, and it's good to have someone who will let her soak it all in.
The drama, centred on the country's first Field Marshal, who was the commander of the Army staff during the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict, will go on floors in August, according to the actor. Shaikh's days are currently filled with hard preparation and extensive look tests.
The actor stated that they went through one round of appearance tests. She has been watching Gandhi's interviews and reading a lot about her, especially her early years. Shaikh concluded by saying that it won't be displayed on film, but it's fascinating to learn about historical individuals.
Currently, Shaikh is exploring and shooting in the North of India for her upcoming film, Dhak Dhak. The film has four female leads, namely Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Shaikh and Sanjana Sanghi. The shooting of the film, co-produced by Taapsee Pannu, is happening in full swing, and it's slated to hit the big screens next year.
