Actor Aishwarya Rajesh is carving a niche for herself in the Tamil film industry with each movie. She made everyone sit up and take notice of her performance in her latest movie Farhana. The movie was released in cinemas on May 12 amid a lot of controversies but garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
After a satisfying run at the box office, the movie is now getting ready to make its digital debut. Farhana will be made available for streaming on SonyLIV on June 16.
In the film, Aishwarya Rajesh portrays the character of Farhana, a Muslim woman belonging to a deeply conservative family. Despite facing strong resistance from the men in her life, Farhana manages to secure a job with the intention of providing financial support to her family. However, her life takes a dramatic twist when she discovers that her employment is at a sex call centre. Undeterred by the circumstances, Farhana courageously persists in her job to continue supporting her family. The trailer of the movie hints at a captivating social thriller, driven by an exceptional performance, which sheds light on the pervasive bias and discrimination faced by women in society.

It's safe to assume that Farhana will be a biting indictment of patriarchal society. In the run-up to its release, the movie faced protests by some Muslim organisations who claimed that it portrayed their community negatively. The controversy escalated to the point where Aishwarya Rajesh received security protection from the Tamil Nadu police.
At the height of the controversy, Dream Warrior Pictures, the producers of Farhana, issued a clarification, assuring that they have made the movie with a lot of "social responsibility."
“Farhana is not against any religion or sentiments. Our aim is only to provide good movies and never act against any religious sentiments, or beliefs. And we never allow or want any act against humanity in our stories. We think that our brothers and sisters who are creating controversies about our movie should understand this," the production company said in a statement.
Farhana is written and directed by Nelson Venkatesan. And it also stars Selvaraghavan, Aishwarya Dutta, Jithan Ramesh and Anumol.
