The Boys, a buddy comedy film, is now streaming on Aha Tamil. The recently released Tamil film is directed by Santhosh P Jayakumar and stars the director along with Sha Ra, Arshad, KPY Vinoth, Yuvaraj Ganesan, Redin Kingsley and others. The story revolves around five friends famous for their notorious and free-spirited personalities. After they move into a new house, uncertainties take up their lives as they wait for one whirlwind of adventure.

While buddy comedies are not new to Tamil cinema, there are some iconic Tamil films which have explored male friendships in the most entertaining manner. Here are some of them:

Directed by Shankar, Boys is about five boys who are a close-knit group and aspire to form a music brand. As they waste the prime time of their life and are yet to understand the hardships of what life has to offer, one of them elopes and gets married to a girl, which also prompts others to fend for their education and livelihood on their own. The coming-of-age story revolves around their wish to make it big in the musical industry as a band. Boys stars Siddharth, Genelia, Thaman, Bharath, Nakul, Vivek and others.

Friends - JioCinema

Director: Siddique

Cast: Vijay, Suriya, Vadivelu, Devyani, Ramesh Khanna

Friends is a buddy comedy released in 2001 and directed by Siddique. The film is the remake of the director Siddique's 1999 Malayalam film of the same name. Friends stars Vijay, Suriya, Vadivelu, Devayani, Vijayalakshmi, Abhinayashree, Sriman, and Ramesh Khanna, among others. The film revolves around two best friends who are together most of the time until a dark secret from the past is revealed. This creates a rift in their friendship.

Endrendrum Punnagai - ZEE5

Director: I Ahmed

Cast: Jiiva, Santhanam, Trisha, Vinay Rai

Endrendrum Punnagai is about the protagonist who is adamant about staying single, even after he falls in love with a woman he works with. However, refusing to give in to his feelings, he hangs around with his two other friends. The film is directed by I Ahmed and stars Jiiva, Vinay Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Santhanam and others. Endrendrum Punnagai has music by Harris Jayaraj.

Goa – SunNXT

Director: Venkat Prabhu 

Cast: Jai, Vaibhav, Premgi, Sneha 

Goa is directed by Venkat Prabhu and stars Premgi, Jai and Vaibhav as three friends who elope from their village and reach Goa in the hope to find love and new adventures. Subsequently, as each of them fall in love with different people, Goa talks about the friendship and care they have for each other and how they look out for one another in a foreign land.

Panchatanthiram - SunNXT

Director: KS Ravikumar 

Cast: Kamal Haasan, Jayaram, Ramya Krishnan, Simran

Panchatanthiram is a 2002 black comedy film directed by KS Ravikumar, and stars Kamal Haasan, Jayaram, Ramesh Aravind, Sriman, Yugi Sethu, Simran and Ramya Krishnan, with Urvashi, Aishwarya, Sanghavi, Vidhya Venkatesh, Devayani and Nagesh among others. A story about a close-knit group of five men, who speak different languages, the film revolves around a trip they take and a murder they think they have committed. Panchatanthiram is known for its hilariously mounted comedy sequences and became a commercial success.
