The Don Palathara directorial was previously screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival

Don Palathara, who has previously helmed films like Santhoshathinte Onnam Rahasyam and Shavam, is known for his work both as a director and screenwriter. He has a knack for making movies that beautifully depict the culture and people of Kerala. The filmmaker has also received accolades at prestigious international film festivals, including those in Moscow and Rotterdam. Speaking of the lastest, his movie Family has just won the ‘Best Film’ award at Halicarnassus Film Festival in Turkey.
According to Sanitha Chittilappilly, the film’s producer, the story encourages one to introspect. She also expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response from the audience, and stressed that the film should be watched in theatres with the whole family. Based on a script written by Don and Sherin Catherine, the film stars Vinay Forrt, Mathew Thomas, Divya Prabha and Nilja K Baby.
Family is also nominated under the ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Indie Film’ categories at the upcoming Melbourne International Film Festival, which is scheduled to take place between August 3 and August 27. Earlier, Family premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
The plot revolves around a Catholic man, named Sony, who is in his late 20s. A B.Ed college dropout, he engages in some odd jobs in his locality. Often seen as a resourceful person, Sony’s real character is very different from his outward personality. His family is aware of his misdeeds, but is silenced by the system.
Vinay was previously seen in Bermuda and Kolla, a heist thriller film, which also starred Rajisha Vijayan and Priya Prakash Varrier. Next, he will be seen in Aattam, in which Bollywood actress Zarin Shihab plays a key role. Vaathil, Jean Val Jean and Babysitter are among his other ambitious projects.
