Family Dhamaka on OTT: Vishwak Sen scores a hit with his host avatar

Several stars from the tinsel town have transitioned effortlessly as hosts on the small screen over the years, be it Nagarjuna or Nandamuri Balakrishna or Samantha, Ali, Lakshmi Manchu or Jr NTR. One can confidently add another name to the list - the Das Ka Dhamki star Vishwak Sen. The latter made his OTT debut with aha’s Family Dhamaka, a regional adaptation of the globally acclaimed Family Feud.

Vishwak Sen, in the show, exudes a boy-next-door charm, being as real and relatable as possible, staying true to his public persona minus any starry airs. At several instances, he admits how he is nervous about hosting a show but his wit, spontaneity while engaging the participants and making them feel at ease is quite commendable.

The show creators do a fine job in ensuring a family-friendly vibe in its treatment. Even in tricky scenarios where Family Dhamaka could’ve gone the ‘vulgar’ way, Vishwak Sen’s sense of humour saves the day. The first episode sets the tone well for the season. The varied, edgy questions keep the viewers engaged and there’s enough scope for both the teams to bounce back at any given stage.

The first episode of Family Dhamaka revolves around two families - Pendyala and Mahendrada. Vishwak’s response when a female participant calls him her elder brother is quite hilarious. As a host, he has plenty of anecdotes to share, like his nostalgic moment on trying to make friends with anyone who had an open terrace. Vishwak clearly has a ball in his latest avatar and he’s a natural at it.

Ultimately, the Pendyalas secured the top honours in the episode, winning over Mahendradas by a huge margin and also bagging a Rs 1 lakh sum. The format is quite convenient to comprehend for viewers of all age groups and the choice of the host, in sync with its vibrancy, is apt. If marketed well, Family Dhamaka could be a win-win situation for both Vishwak Sen and aha.
