If the audience had to pick the best Malayalam OST of 2022, a vast majority would choose Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Hridayam. Composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab and featuring 15 tracks, the album has been on repeat mode ever since the songs released earlier this year and its popularity only seems to grow with time.
In an exclusive chat with OTTPlay, Vineeth talks about what the music of the film that includes chart-toppers such as Darshana, Puthiyoru Lokam, Onnaka Munthiri and Kural Kekkuta has achieved.
“We had dreamt about it. Just like how we dream for the success of a film, we also had this dream for the songs of Hridayam,” says Vineeth. “We had approached Hridayam as two projects – as an album and as a film. Generally, we only think that the movie should be good and that songs are part of that. I had approached Thattathin Marayathu like that. But in the case of Hridayam, we took care of every detail just like how we would, if we were doing an individual music album.”
The movie’s OST also fetched Hesham the State Award for Best Composer earlier this year. “Hridayam was a movie in which he did a lot of things that we wanted to, including recording in several parts of the world. There were certain tracks that we had as references and we tried our best to reach that level of quality with Hridayam’s music,” says Vineeth.
The actor-director, who was last seen in Mukundan Unni Associates, is also delighted that the songs have now featured in everyone’s playlist. “Music’s shelf life is much higher than a movie’s. People might forget everyone who had worked in a movie – its director, actors and singers – in about 20-30 years. But someone would be singing our track, without knowing who had written its lyrics and composed it. For instance, not many would know which film featured the track Sanyasini, but everyone knows the song,” he concludes.
