It is interesting to notice that many talented actors who had been underrated for years have now risen to prominence in the recent past, thanks to the way cinema has changed and the OTT platforms which have become a point to celebrate stories and talents across all genres and age groups. However, among them, National award-winning actress Sarika is not as much visible as her admirers wish her to be.
The actress was last seen in the Prime Video anthology Modern Love: Mumbai after a gap of five years and now she is gearing up for her next feature film, Uunchai.
Talking about what makes her do a lesser number of projects, Sarika told OTTplay, " I think I am choosy because I have a way of thinking as to why I am doing a project. I always look for a role or a character in a film or a show based on the importance and value of the character in the narrative. Look, I do not mind playing a character with one scene, but how that scene is important for the whole film, matters to me, really!"
"Standing of the character in the overall script is very important for me now...I have been working all my life!" further added the Parzania famed actress.
Asked about what kind of script can impress the veteran actress, Sarika promptly replied, " Give me a script that offers realism. You know I loved that film called Sir, in which Tillotama Shome played a house help. It was not easy for an actress to bring so much realism to the performance but also the script was such! That kind of narrative excites me as an artist. Give me a script as that and I will be on my toe."
"It is true that all the time we keep saying that we want to do a different kind of role but the fact is, not many so-called different kinds of roles are written. It's like, you only have these many spices in a spice box and I, as an artist, desperately trying to choose the best," Sarika signed off.
Uunchai, directed and produced by Sooraj Barjatya, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Neena Gupt, Parineeti Chopra, Danny Denzonpa among others - will be released in theaters on November 11.
