Exclusive! Ushasi Ray on her film debut: Since my childhood, I’ve dreamt to work in films and now it’s coming true

Television’s popular actress Ushasi Ray is gearing up to work on the big screen. The actress will start shooting in Raja Chanda’s next film that also features Soham Chakraborty and Bonny Sengupta in the lead. Ushasi has worked in leading television serials, including Star Jalsha's Milon Tithi and Bokul Kotha. In Zee Bangla's Kadambini, she has portrayed the character of Dr Kadambini Ganguly – the first female physician in British India. She has also worked in digital space. In Hoichoi, she worked in Turu Love and Sundarbaner Vidyasagar. However, by her admission, Ushasi always wanted to work in films and finally, she got a chance.

In an exclusive chat with OTTPlay, Ushasi said, “I wanted to see myself on the big screen since I was a kid and my parents used to take me to theatres. With this offer, I am convinced that if you dream wholeheartedly and work toward materialising your dream, it will come true.” She also joked, “My next dream is to work opposite Shah Rukh Khan.”

While Ushasi is yet to explore the character, she said that it is of a rebellious girl who lives in Bangalore. “She goes to a college and is involved in politics. It is because of her politics that her photos are widely circulated on social media and that made her a known face. Due to some trouble, she gets back to a town that is famous for manufacturing a special pen, Muktolekha,” she said.” She also informed that the team will soon host script reading meetings. The film will go to the floors in mid-June.

Soham plays a character of a young footballer, whose father is a pen seller. Soham’s character had to stop playing football because of injury. Bonny comes to the locality for his business. He raps well but then gets entangled with local miscreants. Senior actress Bidipta Chakraborty will be portraying the character of Soham’s elder sister. The film delves into a series of events that takes place after a murder happens in the locality.
