Exclusive! Ushasi Ray on Chhotolok: I am happy that Daminee Basu is finally getting the recognition she deserves

Indranil Roychowdhury’s murder mystery, Chhotolok, was dropped on Zee5 on September 3. The show features Daminee Benny Basu, Priyanka Sarkar, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Pratik Dutta Loknath Dey, Indrani Halder, Ushasi Ray, and others. The plot revolves around the murder of a young and upcoming model, Rupsa – played by Ushasi. The show started garnering appreciation soon after it was dropped. This has left Ushasi very happy. In a chat with OTTplay, the young actress talked about her experience of working with Indranil and the reasons for her to be happy. 

“More than anything else, I am happy for Bennydi,” Ushasi said about Daminee – an ace actress who has so far been underexplored. She plays the character of sub-inspector Sabitri Mondol. “It feels like a personal joy for me. I have known her for ages and I learned acting from her. She has always been around and yet it took her years to get a character like Sabitri Mondal. Today, everyone is praising her. It feels like my success,” said Ushasi.

The young actress is also excited about working with Indranil. “He is known to be a serious filmmaker. When I went for my first meeting, everyone was very serious there. Kobida (Indranil) told me that he wanted me to play Rupsa. After the initial dilemma, I joined his team and it was a fantastic experience. There was barely any instruction during shooting. Kobita elaborated on the character to me during the rehearsals and workshops. He explained the journey of Rupsa – the bits that are not part of the show. He imagined the character so well that It became easier for me. He is a humble and down-to-earth human being. It was a pleasure working with him,” she said.

Ushasi has another release, Petni on Addatimes, on November 17. “This is the first time I have had two releases in the same month,” she said. Meanwhile, she will be working in the second season of Gobhir Joler Mach on Hoichoi and Arindam Sil’s Adarsha Hindu Hotel on Friday. “I don’t know when the shooting will start for these two shows. But after Chhotolok, I am sure of one thing. I will accept another challenging character strikingly different from Rupsha. As an actress, I would love to explore many other shades,” said the actress.
