After a successful run of two years, Star Jalsha’s megaserial Khorkuto telecasted its last episode on August 21. Lead actress Trina Saha’s character Gungun became a household sensation in the last two years. The show ends with the death of the character. However, on a surprise note, after 20 years Gungun Junior meets the family through a similar setup. In a candid chat with OTTplay, an emotional Trina Saha opens up about her attachment to the show and her upcoming projects.
Now that the last episode of Khorkuto is over, are you feeling emotional?
Very much. It is not just me. All the artistes and technicians are emotional today. In 2020, we started shooting the serial on August 6 and it was first telecasted on August 19. Everybody remembers the dates because this serial started after the pandemic. Soon after the lockdown was partially lifted, we started shooting and this has worked for many cast and crew members after the pandemic stole their job. Besides, the comedy and family drama helped the audience to release stress too. That’s why it got so popular.
Khorkuto has been criticised for being regressive…
Yes, I am aware. I am very active on social media and hence, I am completely aware of all the social media discussions. Whenever we found some constructive criticism, we embraced that and tried to incorporate it into the show. However, some comments were pointless. We avoided such trolls.
Your character Gungun became a household name…
My first serial was Khokababu with Pratik Sen. It was a bumper hit. It was recreated in seven Indian languages. My character Tori became so popular that everyone used to call me Tori. The show started in 2016 and went on for a little more than two years and Tori became my identity. Gungun finally helped me come out from Tori. Now everyone knows me as Gungun.
When will you be back in mega again?
Right now I am enjoying the fame of Gungun and not stepping into another character immediately. I have two films and a web series on the cards. I am working as one of the mentors in dance Bangla Dance Junior Season 3. But that doesn’t mean that I am taking any break from the TV. I will go by the flow.
