Exclusive! Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir-starrer Nadigar Thilakam, directed by Lal Jr, is a fun entertainer

After a series of serious films such as Kala and Kaanekkaane, Tovino Thomas seems to have been signing entertainers. The latest in the list, after Thallumala and Vaashi, is Lal Jr’s upcoming film titled Nadigar Thilakam.

The movie’s title was announced today through a retro clip along with a snazzy tagline that said, ‘Shine on you crazy diamond’. Talking to OTTplay, the film’s scriptwriter Suvin Somashekharan, who had earlier penned the screenplay for Joju George and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Star, said, “It’s a fun entertainer, which is also realistic in nature. It doesn't have any acting-related backdrop despite the title. Tovino plays the central character but Soubin also has a pivotal role in the movie. We are currently in the process of finalising the rest of the cast."

The scriptwriter, who says that he had been parallely working on screenplays of Star and Nadigar Thilakam, also reveals that the movie is expected to go on floors by the first half of next year.

Lal Jr, who had helmed movies such as Driving Licence and Honey Bee, had last co-directed the comedy entertainer Tsunami along with his father and actor-director Lal. Meanwhile, Tovino is currently shooting for Vaashi, which has Keerthy Suresh as the female lead. He had wrapped up the majority of his portions in Khalid Rahman’s Thallumala before joining the Vishnu G Raghav directorial.

Coincidentally, Thallumala was first announced with Tovino and Soubin. The latter however had to opt out of the film, which also has Kalyani Priyadarshan. Soubin is currently shooting for Vellarika Pattanam that has Manju Warrier as the female protagonist. The actor is also set to begin work on his directorial Othiram Kadakam that has Dulquer Salmaan playing the lead character.
