Tota Roy Chowdhury had an outstanding 2023. By his admission, Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, changed his life overnight. As a result, his 2024 is packed with work commitments. He will be seen in Kunal Deshmukh’s sports drama, Diler, which also reportedly features Ibrahim Ali Khan. He will work with Vikramaditya Motwane and will be seen in Neeraj Pandey’s Special Ops 2.

Tota’s Bengali calendar is also filled with a number of films and OTT releases. He teamed up with Pratim D Gupta’s Chaalchitra which also features Shantanu Maheshwari and Raima Sen. Besides, there is a second season of Nikhoj and Jaha Bolibo Shotto Bolibo and so on. “I am trying to space out my work as it is important for me to enjoy what I do. At the same time, I also want to reap the benefit of the celebration that RARKPK gave me. That film truly changed my life overnight. The last time I remember being celebrated so much was after the release of Chokher Bali, 20 years ago. RARKPK has made my 2023 an extremely memorable one,” the actor said.

From next month on, Tota will start preparing for his Feluda avatar for the second season of Srijit Mukherji’s Bhuswargo Bhoyonkor. If all goes well, the show may go on the floors in another couple of months. “Feluda is a passion project for me. In this series, I try to become exactly my director’s Feluda. In general, I believe there is only one boss on the sets – that is the director,” the actor said.

It cannot be overlooked that any Feluda franchise comes with a lot of baggage – a social media uproar is one of them. “I never respond to any social media uproar. I do what my director wants me to do. If there is any logical constructive criticism, I listen to it. I never listen to what trolls say,” he said.

Tota agrees that there has been an excess of Feluda and Byomkesh that are shaping up in the Bengali entertainment industry. “I agree it lessens the charm. Maybe we can space it out a bit. My idea would be to have one Feluda film and one web series and that’s all. But who am I to comment on this? I just mentioned that Feluda is my passion project and just like I would like to work in one Feluda every year, there will be other actors who would like to work on Feluda too. It is a coveted character after all. But in all this, I like how people are going back to the Feluda books and reading those,” he said.
