According to a source close to the project, Bijoya is modelled around the infamous ragging incident at Jadavpur University which shook the country. Swastika plays the character of the mother of a young boy who came to study at a big university in a small town. After a grisly incident, the boy becomes clinically unconscious. His family is told that he attempted suicide but her mother finds out the truth. Shaheb plays the antagonist – a powerful person who impacts the case. This is a fresh series that was not part of Hoichoi’s slate announcement last year.

In August 2023, a 17-year-old student of Jadavpur University died in Main Hoster allegedly after succumbing to ruthless ragging. A group of students and former students were arrested by the police and the case is still on. Initially, it was told that the victim died by suicide after jumping off the balcony. Later, it was found that there could be a possibility of an accident or deliberate attempt to push him off the balcony by the alleged boarders. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. This incident shook the nation. The security system of Jadavpur University came under the radar.
Sayantan, known for his thrillers, resorted to this incident, the sources said. Screenwriter duo Rohit and Soumya have penned the script. If all goes well, the series might get dropped by the end of May or early June.
