Sushanth, actor and grandson of legendary actor ANR, turned a new leaf in his career with his digital debut this year. Maa Neella Tank on ZEE5, in which he was paired opposite Priya Anand, was hailed as a cute small-town comedy brimming with innocence. His next release is the courtroom drama Ravanasura, directed by Sudheer Varma, in which he plays a key role alongside Ravi Teja.

The actor is happy that he’s in a phase where can afford to experiment in a variety of roles. “I am thankful to be in this phase, it has taken a while to be here and even I am not sure what I’ll take up next. While audiences know I can pull off subtle roles, Maa Neella Tank made audiences realise I can be good at comedy and do louder characters too,” he said in an interaction with OTTplay.

Elaborating on Ravanasura, Sushanth shared with great enthusiasm, “The film will present an intense side to me. I have learnt a lot from Ravi Teja sir and grown up watching his films. Even his role in Ravanasura is one of a kind and I picked up a lot from him. Hopefully, this phase should open me up to more versatile scripts.”

“I never expected myself to do Ala Vaikunthapurramulo or Maa Neella Tank or Ravanasura. I was working on my solo projects and these were offers I couldn’t say no to. I would like to mix it up and surprise people now and then,” he added. Ravanasura is expected to hit screens later this year. The film features Anu Emmanuel, Megha Akash, Faria Abdullah, Daksha Nagarkar and Pujita Ponnada as female leads.

Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Sampath Raj, Nitin Mehta, Satya form the supporting cast of Ravanasura. Apart from the film, he’s also working on another project as a solo lead, which he’s tightlipped about. The project will be formally announced shortly. In the previous year, he starred in Ichata Vahanamulu Niluparadu, an action thriller with Meenakshi Chaudhary (streaming on aha).
