After its premiere at the 26th Kolkata International Film festival, Subhrajit Mitra’s Avijatrik has participated in nearly 40 film festivals, including the 51st International Film Festival of India, worldwide competition and has received 28 laurels, so far. After being acclaimed in different cities like London, Miami, Montreal, Boston, Birmingham, Manchester, Berlin, and Seattle, the film has won the Best Director Award at this year's North America Bengali Conference (NABC 2022) that took place at Las Vegas. Produced by Madhur Bhandarkar, Gaurang Jalan and Sumit Agarwal, the film is a continuation of Apur Sansar. It features Arjun Chakrabarty, Ditipriya Roy, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty and others.
After receiving the award, Subhrajit said, “Today, I am missing Sumitji, who passed away recently. Singe Gaurangji was busy, he was supposed to come with me here in LA. His death is still painful to me. I was the only one from the team and I dedicate this award to my entire cast and crew. It is because of their hard work the film has been receiving so much love.”
The director also thanked the audience for the award. “There were other films too – Aparajita, Mahananda and others. I received the award and that is very special for me. This is a recognition from Global Bengalis,” he said.y
The film also marks the first Bengali music album that is acquired by an acclaimed global music company. Music is composed by Pt Bickram Ghosh and the title track by Anoushka Shankar is a variation of Pt Ravi Shankar’s iconic Pather Panchali theme.
