Exclusive! Sonali Kulkarni: It's my dream to work with Zoya Akhtar

National award-winning actress Sonali Kulkarni has worked with many celebrated filmmakers including Girish Karnad, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Ram Gopal Varma and international filmmakers as well. While talking to OTTplay in a candid chat, she opens up on a very special film director (Zoya Akhtar) she wishes to work with. 

The actress has appeared in a pivotal part of the web series Dharavi Bank, starring Vivek Oberoi and Suniel Shetty. Directed by Sumit Kakkad, Sonali narrated the character of Janhvi Surve, the CM of a state. The story of the show mainly focuses on the chase game between a dedicated police officer like JCP Jayant Gavaskar and a powerful man, a messiah of Dharavi, Thalaivan, played by Vivek and Suneil respectively. 

Ask her about any new-age filmmaker that she wishes to work with and Sonali told OTTplay, "It is my dream to work with Zoya Akhtar because she is such a talented storyteller. Zoya was my casting director when I worked in the film Dil Chata Hai. She was Farhan's AD! From there, the way she has grown as a professional and the kind of cinema that she is making, the voice that she has created as a film director is so fascinating to see. She is a thinking mind that I am attracted to. I genuinely wish to work with Zoya." 

The film Dil Chahta Hai was the directorial debut of Farhan Akhtar that was released in 2001. Sonali’s character Pooja got noticed and was appreciated by the audience. The film earned a cult status among the youth and holds a very special place in the heart of the 90s kids. 

Zoya Akhtar is a much-loved filmmaker who is known for delivering some successful films including Luck By Chance, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do and Gully Boy. 

The latest web series Dharavi Bank also stars Samiksha Bhatnagar, Freddy Daruwala, Luke Kenny, Chinmay Mandlekar and Hitesh Bhojraj among others. It is streaming on MX Player.
