Exclusive! Shubhamita Banerjee: I have never taken part in a rat race, I just care for good songs

After the pandemic years, the live music industry is getting back to its form. Since last year, Bengali musicians have started touring the world. This year, the number of scheduled gigs has gone up. Singer Shubhamita Banerjee is all set to travel the US with another veteran musician Srikanto Acharya and conduct duet shows during October – Durga Puja period. 

Talking to OTTplay, Subhamita revealed, “Srikantoda and I have performed duet shows in India also. We develop a format. It is a blend of duet songs, solos, and conversation. We usually pick a generic theme – a tribute to someone or select songs on monsoon and so on. We add a bit of gazal also.” 

Talking about the effect of the pandemic on the music industry, Subhamita said, “There was a period when there were no shows. We were all stuck in our house. I did not let negativity engulf me. I kept myself busy with music. And I always felt that these dark days will be over soon. It cannot stay forever. Now things are better. The number of shows has gone up.” 

In August, Srijato and Subhamita’s album Ghalibnama 2 was released. “During the pandemic, I worked on Nazrul. I don’t work on too many projects. I have never taken part in a rat race, I just care for good songs,” she said.
