It’s no secret that Malayalam actors Indrans and Sharafudheen are among the few artistes in the industry who have great comic timing. However, that’s not the reason they have been cast in director Shafi’s latest comedy, Aanandham Paramaanandham.
In an exclusive chat with OTTPlay, Shafi, says, “Both of them have proved that they are great artistes in the past few years. Indrans ettan is actually going from strength to strength with each film. Sharafudheen chooses roles that are so different from each other. He does humour with as much as ease as essaying an antagonist in a film.”
The movie revolves around a father-in-law and a son-in-law, who are both alcoholics, and share unique dynamics. Aju Varghese and Baiju Santosh’s characters have to do more humour scenes in the film as compared to Indrans and Sharafudheen, reveals the director.
“From the day we started discussing about the movie, we had to finalise whom to cast in these roles because both the characters had good scope for performance. Indrans ettan loved the story as soon as he heard it and he told us that he hasn’t done too many films that had him in a full-length role. We had approached him much before a few of his recent films that had him as the protagonist. So, he was excited to be part of Aanandham Paramaandham,” he says.
The film is set to release in theatres on December 23. Meanwhile, on his upcoming projects, Shafi says, “I am currently in talks for movies with both Dileep and Jayasurya, but haven’t finalised on which to go ahead with first.”
Ask him the status of the anticipated movie with Suraj Venjaramoodu, which is a spin-off based on his Chattambinadu character Dashamoolam Damu, and the filmmaker says, “I won’t be directing the film, but I will be part of the film as its producer along with (scriptwriter) Benny (P Nayarambalam). We are yet to confirm the director.”
