Exclusive! Saurav Das on 1954: My character is a complex portrayal of an artiste

The shooting of Sayantan Mukherjee’s web series 1954 came to an end recently. Saurav Das plays a key character, along with Rudranil Ghosh, Prantika Das and Pujarini Ghosh. The crime thriller is based on the infamous and grisly murder mystery of Bela Rani in 1954. Rudranil Ghosh plays the character of the investigating officer. 

Talking about his character, Saurav said, “I play the character of an artiste. He thinks himself to be one of the finest actors in the world. He watches Hitchcock’s films and talks about Jibanananda Das. His life is all about the arts. However, he could not do much in his life. He fails to accept that. I was drawn to the character for this insanity. I have worked on a character like this after years.” The story is based on a real-life murder that shook the city in the ’50s for its brutality.

Billed as a period piece, the show, 1954, is made for Camelia’s upcoming OTT platform, Friday. The shooting has already been completed. Friday is scheduled to launch during Diwali. A number of shows, including Adarsha Hindu Hotel by Arindam Sil and others. 

Meanwhile, Saurav will be pairing up with Ishaa Saha once again for a brand new show on Zee5. Directed by Korak Murmu, the shooting will start on November 5. The web series will also feature Suhotra Mukhopadhyay – who has teamed up with Ishaa on multiple series, including Indu, Gora, and others. Saurav first teamed up with Ishaa in the 2022 film Kolkata Chalantika. After that, they worked together in Abhrajit Sen’s upcoming Hoichoi series, Andarmahal. The shooting of Andarmahal was completed. However, it is yet to be released.
