Recently, actors Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and famous cricketer Shubman Gill’s deepfakes were circulated online which sparked global outrage. Deepfake videos are created by artificial intelligence-driven tools that replace one person's likeness convincingly with that of another. Following the controversy of Rashmika, Katrina, and Shubman’s deepfakes being circulated online, the Indian Government has asked social media companies to remove deepfakes within 36 hours of a complaint being registered. While people continue to express concern on the pressing matter, actress Saiyami Kher has expressed her views on it.

What is the deepfake controversy?
The Indian government, on November 8, directed "social media intermediaries" to promptly remove morphed videos or deepfakes from their platforms within 24 hours of receiving a complaint, adhering to the provisions outlined in the IT Rules 2021. This directive was issued in response to the emergence of deepfake videos featuring actors Rashmika Mandanna and Katrina Kaif, as well as cricketer Shubman Gill, appearing online over the course of a single week.
On Twitter and Instagram, Rashmika has even thanked those who came out in support of her.
