With less than a day remaining for Ghoomer to arrive on ZEE5, Saiyami Kher – who plays the lead role in the movie, shared her thoughts about the film. From getting to work with a stellar cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Angad Bedi, and Shabana Azmi to drawing inspiration from cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, Saiyami Kher talks about it all.

Here are some exciting revelations made by the actor.

Tell us about your role as Anina – a specially-abled cricketer – in Ghoomer.

Well, it is the most special role I have done so far in my life. It is the kind of role I have been manifesting to do ever since I started acting. The opportunity that (director) R. Balki sir has given me is an opportunity that anyone would die to do. I am glad that Balki sir trusted me with this opportunity. It is one of the most special films I have done in my life. It is the most challenging film I have done. Besides playing cricket and undergoing physical transformation, it has emotionally been the most exhausting film I have done.

Is there any special memory from the sets of Ghoomer you wish to share with us?

Every day was a special memory on the set of Ghoomer. From the time we started training to the time we released the film, Balki sir became a family. He is someone whom I have known for a long time. AB (Abhishek Bachchan) is someone special because I have worked with him before. Shabana Azmi has known me since I was a baby. Getting to work with a legend like her makes me feel grateful. Angad is my first friend in the industry. Every day, I feel like I could go back to the shoot and relive those days.

Did you take up Ghoomer because you admire cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar?

Like I said, any actor would die to do a role like this. I have admired the man (Sachin Tendulkar) since childhood. He has taught me so much on and off the field. He also gave me little insights when I was shooting on and off the field. To talk and learn from the master is extremely overwhelming. I have grown up idolizing him. From sitting and watching this film with him to bowling the Ghoomer ball to him, it is extremely overwhelming journey.

Are Ghoomer makers planning to send the movie to the Oscars?

I am not aware of it.

Ghoomer can soon be viewed on ZEE5. Do you think OTT is the future of Indian cinema?

I think cinema and OTT will coexist. Nobody is going to take one over the other. Watching a film on the big screen is very different from watching a film at home. Especially, with Ghoomer, I feel it was unfortunate Ghoomer’s earnings got washed away by Gadar 2.

OTT platforms give you a second chance. I am happy it is coming on ZEE5 because it will reach a larger audience. That is what an actor and director want at the end of the day.

Who will win the ICC ODI World Cup 2023?

I will give a completely unbiased view. This time around, there has been no team as dominant as Team India. They have excelled in batting, bowling, and fielding. So, I am cheering for team India.
