Antony Varghese has now become synonymous with action films, so it was hardly a surprise that the actor was cast in debutant filmmaker Nahas Hidayath’s upcoming RDX, which has several fight sequences driving the story.

However, the filmmaker tells OTTplay that Antony’s characteri in the movie is poles apart from his previous action ventures such as Angamaly Diairies, Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil and Ajagajantharam.

“Even though Antony has done action films before, this movie will have him in a totally different avatar. Be it Shane Nigam, Neeraj Madhav or Antony, all of them are playing characters that are different from the roles they have done before,” he tells us. While Antony plays Doney, Shane and Neeraj will be essaying Robert and Xavier, respectively. “All three of them are youngsters based in Kochi,” adds Nahas.

The movie, scripted by Adarsh Sukumaran and Shahbaz Rasheed, is set to have its pooja function on August 17. “We will begin shooting full-swing from August 25. Mahima Nambiar and Aima Rosmy Sebastian are cast as the female leads in the film, which has Kochi as its main location,” says the director.

Prior to RDX, the filmmaker had shot a few portions of his movie Aaraavam, which was a campus entertainer starring Antony Varghese. He now tells us that the movie has not been dropped and both he and Antony will resume shooting for it after completing RDX. “After the lockdown, the looks of all artistes had changed and so, if Antony had to play a college student again, we needed to get back to the previous get-up. We are planning to do that after RDX,” Nahas says.

The filmmaker, during the lockdown in 2020, had shot a short film titled Colour Padam, starring Aswin Jose and Mamitha Baiju. “I was able to show the short film as well as visuals of a few portions of Aaravam to the producers of RDX to convince them that I could pull off a film,” he concludes.
