While director Shaji Kailas confirmed that Mohanlal is not acting in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming ‘mass’ action drama Kaduva, OTTplay has exclusively learnt that the young star will be part of the veteran duo’s thriller Alone.
In an earlier interview with us, Mohanlal had said that the movie, which is set during the lockdown, is a thriller featuring a single actor . “The way it’s made and its purpose is intriguing; it’s a great thriller. A lot of other characters come through phone calls,” he said.
A source in the know confirms to OTTplay that Prithviraj and Manju Warrier will be two among the many actors who are part of the movie. Prithviraj had last year also worked with Mohanlal in Bro Daddy, which is also produced by Aashirvaad Cinemas.
The source tells us that Alone is probably Mohanlal’s film made with the least budget since the pandemic. “The film would have cost only around Rs 2 crore to make,” the source reveals. Mohanlal too had told us that Aashirvaad Cinemas decided to produce Alone as it didn’t have too many actors.
Shaji Kailas in a recent interview revealed that producer Antony Perumbavoor had approached him, asking if he had an idea in mind that could be made into a film during the pandemic, chiefly to provide work for cinema personnel at a time when the Malayalam movie industry was reeling from the lockdowns.
Alone revolves around the character named Kalidas who travels from Coimbatore to Kerala and gets stranded after the lockdown. The movie is expected to release directly on OTT in August. Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video had been in negotiations for the film, which will mark Mohanlal and Aashirvaad Cinemas’ fourth straight OTT release after Drishyam 2, Bro Daddy and 12th Man. The makers are also in talks with various streaming services to release Mohanlal’s investigative thriller Monster.
Meanwhile, both Prithviraj and Manju Warrier will be seen together in Shaji Kailas' next director Kaapa, which will begin shooting in Thiruvananthapuram next month. The crime drama, scripted by GR Indugopan, also has Asif Ali and Anna Ben as part of the cast.
