Aaraattu, Mohanlal’s first theatrical release of 2021, is finally set to drop on a streaming platform. While OTTplay had earlier reported that the film’s digital rights were sold to Amazon Prime Video, we now have a confirmation on when the movie will begin streaming on the OTT platform.

The big budget entertainer, which released in theatres on February 18, was directed by B Unnikrishnan and scripted by Pulimurugan fame Udaykrishna. Shraddha Srinath, Nedumudi Venu, Rachana Narayanankutty, Siddique, Kottayam Ramesh, Ashwin Kkumar, Lukman Avaran and Johny Antony were also part of the cast of the film. Aaraattu also has a cameo by AR Rahman, who plays himself in Aaraattu.

The movie, which is a ‘mass’ entertainer, revolved around Mohanlal’s character Neyyattinkara Gopan, who comes to a village as part of a real-estate deal but continues to stay on, helping the villagers and also fulfilling the task he was assigned. But over time, it becomes clear that there’s more on his mind than what he leads the other to believe.

A source from the film’s team tells OTTplay that the movie will stream on Amazon Prime Video from March 20. The streaming giant had also bagged the rights of Mohanlal’s previous films Drishyam 2, which re leased directly on the platform, and Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham , which released in December 2021.

With Aaraattu also releasing on a streaming platform this month, it makes for a packed month for the audience on the OTT space. Anaswara Rajan and Arjun Ashokan’s Super Sharanya will release on March 11 on ZEE5 along with Parvathy Thiruvothu’s Varathamanam on Manorama Max.

The two most-anticipated direct-to-OTT releases this month – Manju Warrier and Biju Menon’s Lalitham Sundaram and Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute – will release on March 18 on Disney+ Hotstar and Sony LIV, respectively. Asif Ali’s Kunjeldho, which will also stream on ZEE5, is expected to release later this week.
