A year after Mohanlal and Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 2 hit Amazon Prime Video and won widespread acclaim, the duo is gearing up for their next direct-to-OTT release, 12th Man.
The movie, which marks Jeethu’s fourth collaboration with Mohanlal after the two Drishyam movies and partially completed Ram, is touted to be a mystery drama on the lines of Agatha Christie’s stories. A source close to the director had earlier confirmed to us that the film’s rights had been sold to Disney+ Hotstar last year, along with the production company’s Bro Daddy, which also released on the platform in January 2022.
We have now learnt that 12th Man will be Hotstar’s Vishu release this year. “The plan is to release the movie on April 14 on Hotstar. The official announcement will be made through a teaser in the coming days,” says a source from the team.
This will mark Mohanlal’s and Aashirvad Cinemas’ third straight OTT release since the pandemic. The actor also had two theatricals – Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and Aaraattu, both of which are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
12th Man has an ensemble cast featuring Mohanlal, Unni Mukundan, Anu Sithara, Anu Mohan, Leona Lishoy, Priyanka Nair, G Chandhunath, Saiju Kurup, Rahul Madhav and Sshivada. The film, which was shot last year after the second wave of COVID-19, revolves around the events that happen in a span of 24 hours.
Meanwhile, sources from the production team also say that the makers are in negotiations with multiple OTT platforms for the release of Mohanlal’s two other upcoming movies – Vysakh’s Monster and Shaji Kailas’ Alone.
Monster has the superstar playing a character named Lucky Singh and is touted to be a thriller filled with unexpected twists. Alone, however, is a single actor film set during the pandemic and has the other characters featuring only through phone calls.
