Mammootty has been on a signing spree lately and that too thrillers. After Puzhu and CBI 5: The Brain, the megastar will next be part of Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha director Nisam Basheer’s sophomore venture, which also has Sharafudheen and Grace Antony as part of the cast.
Talking to OTTplay about the project, the director says, “It’s a film belonging to the thriller genre. We had approached Mammukka over a year ago during the pandemic. He like the script and greenlit the project, which is written by Iblis and Adventures of Omanakuttan scriptwriter Samir Abdul.”
Nisam, however, is tight-lipped about the details of Mammootty’s character as he wants to maintain the suspense the genre demands. However, he confirms that the movie will be a theatrical release. “It is a big film that is made keeping the theatre audience in mind,” the filmmaker says.
The movie marks the second production venture of Mammootty Kampany, which had also backed Lijo Jose Pellissery’s upcoming movie Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakam starring the megastar, Ramya Pandian and Ashokan.
Nisam’s directorial, meanwhile, will have Sharafudheen, Grace Antony, Bindu Panicker, Kottayam Nazeer and Jagadish Kumar in pivotal roles. “All of them play main characters that contribute to the plot of the film,” says the filmmaker. The movie is set to go on floors on March 25, and will be shot in Kerala.
Meanwhile, Mammootty is expected to wrap up shooting his portions for his Telugu venture Agent, which has Akhil Akkineni in the lead and is directed by Surender Reddy. The team had recently revealed the first look poster of this character in his action avatar from the movie.
Mammootty’s next release Puzhu, which is directed by Ratheena PT, is also set to mark his OTT debut. The film, which is a crime thriller, revolves around a father and son and their dynamics that is affected by trust issues. Puzhu, which will release on Sony LIV, also has Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead.
