National Award-winning director Kaushik Ganguly has teamed up with his wife actress-director Churni Ganguly multiple times in his films. Churni earned many accolades for working in Kaushi’s Waarish in 2004. Later she worked in a number of Kaushik’s films, including Shunyo E Buke, Arekti Premer Golpo and so on. Now, for the first time, Kaushik has roped in his son, Ujaan Ganguly, also an actor, in his next, Lokkhi Chele. Ujaan debuted on the big screen in Pavel’s Rosogolla. In a chat, Kaushik talked about working with Ujaan and how he sees his family as a unit of entertainment.
Talking about casting Ujaan, he said, “This is the first time I have worked with Ujaan. He was 21 when we shot the film and he became more mature in these years. Many years ago I worked with him once when he was such a baby that we needed to call him by his name to make him look at us. Churni and I did not visit him during his shooting of Rosogolla. Shibu (Shiboprosad Mukherjee), Nanditadi (Roy) and others watched his play and called him for an audition. Along with Pavel (director of Rosogolla), they watched his audition and selected him for the film. Later they asked me to make a film with him.”
Lokkhi Chele also features Churni as a pivotal character. Talking about his family, Kausik said, “Ujaan, Churni and I see ourselves as a family of entertainers. We wanted to be a part of a film that will be etched as an important film in Indian history. I believe Lokkhi Chele is one such film with which our Ganguly family is deeply associated.”
Earlier, Kaushik talked about how casting Ujaan has never been a result of nepotism. "He waited for 21 years before getting a role in my film," he said. Lokkhi Chele will be released on August 26.
