Actress Tejasvi Singh Ahlawat has been receiving a lot of love from the audience after the release of the new web series on SonyLIV, called Kafas. Directed by Sahil Sangha, the story of Kafas deals with the sensitive issue of child abuse in the workplace.
In the show, Tejasvi plays the character of Shreya Vashist, the sister of Sunny Vashist, a child actor who is sexually abused by the lead actor on a film set. The senior actor then uses his popularity and power to influence the victim’s parents to hide the incident from the public eye, in order to maintain his image. How the parents then find a way to give justice to their child sets the premise of the web series.
The series also features Mikail Gandhi, Mukesh Chabda, Vivan Bhatena, Mona Singh, and Sharman Joshi in lead roles.
Sharing her experience of being part of the project, Tejaswi told OTTplay, “My first scene of the show was shot at the cafe in Versova [Mumbai] with Mukesh sir. It was a special day for me, mostly because I was grateful that Mukesh sir cast me for the show. That day I also showed him my picture with him that we clicked six years ago when I met him at Shri Ram Centre [for Performing Arts] in Delhi. I shared the picture with him and told him that it is a full circle moment for me that I am working with you now and sharing screen space. I was full of gratitude.”
Adding to that, she said, “Since I am a trained actor I know that different techniques help to handle different emotions. But I must mention that apart from the reading session we had with all the actors, Sahil sir is such a precious director that he just knows exactly what he wants. He has the perfect language to communicate in the way we’ll understand it. I think that really made everything easy for all of us.”
In the past, Tejasvi has appeared in films like Mardaani 2, the web series A Simple Murder and in the short film 2024, which was released on Disney+Hotstar among others.
Kafas is an Indian adaptation of the British miniseries Dark Money. The series also features Zarina Wahab, Akanksha Kadre and Preeti Jhangiani, among others.
