She won over a thousand hearts with her screen presence in the multi-starrer film Mohabbatein, in which, despite the presence of two iconic actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, everyone still remembers Preeti Jhangiani and her onscreen love story with Jimmy Shergill.
However, Preeti has been missing for several years. The actor is back with a bang with the recently released web series Kafas. In a conversation with OTTplay, we asked her why she has stayed away from acting.
"I will be very honest. After a point, I was not happy with the kinds of roles that I was being offered in films. They were not exciting enough. I wouldn't say that I took a break from my professional life because I did not feel that way. I was busy doing shows and events. I started a company through which I produced a film. There were also sports championships and other events. Since I was setting up a business, I was quite busy with that. Yes, I did not act in Hindi films in the meantime, but I did act in Punjabi and Rajasthani films, for which I also won an award. So, I did not miss acting," said Preeti.
The actor added, "I basically wanted to do good and interesting work, and I always wanted to do something in the web space. When the offer for Kafas came to me, I readily agreed to it because I felt that the story was so important that people should watch it and start a conversation around it. So, it was the perfect debut for me."
In Kafas, Preeti plays Tanya Bajaj, the wife of a superstar who is a sexual predator. And she has been receiving a lot of praise for playing the morally complicated character with honesty.
Kafas is directed by Sahil Sangha and also stars Sharman Joshi, Mona Singh, Vivan Bhatena, Mikail Gandhi, and Mukesh Chhabra. It is available to stream on SonyLIV.
