It is not the first time Mona Singh has played a mother onscreen, but she surely played a morally complicated character in the web series Kafas.

Set in a middle-class family in Mumbai, the story of Kafas revolves around a child actor named Sunny Vashisht who faces sexual abuse during the shooting of a film, which was perpetrated by the hero of the film. Since he is a superstar, he forces the child actor's parents to keep quiet by offering a huge sum of money. The parents accept the money and let the predator get away with the offence.

Anyone would then ask how the parents did not fight for the justice of their child who is sexually abused. This makes Seema, played by Mona, a morally complicated character.

During an interview with OTTplay, Mona spoke about how she prepared for the role in Kafas.

"As an actor, I have to give my 100 percent, and there are no two ways about it. But what happens behind the scenes is a lot of rehearsal and preparation. And ours was extensive. We had many readings with the kids, co-actors, and sittings with the director and writers. That entire process laid the foundation. When your foundation is strong, no character feels difficult to play. During the rehearsals, we explored a lot: different moods, tried different things, made mistakes, and finally reached a point from which, once the camera began to roll, everything fell into place."

Kafas also stars Sharman Joshi, child actor Mikail Gandhi, Vivan Bhatena, Tejasvi Singh Ahlawat, Jyoti Gauba, and Mona Vasu. Directed by Sahil Sangha, it is available to stream on SonyLIV.
