While director Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal have teamed up for two back-to-back direct-to-OTT releases since the pandemic, it doesn’t mean they have abandoned their ambitious film Ram, which was stalled due to the lockdown back in February 2020.
In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, the Drishyam director tells us that the movie is very much and that he will be heading to Europe for the film’s recce next week. The film, which has Mohanlal, Indrajith Sukumaran, Trisha, Chandunath and Adil Hussain, is touted to be an action-thriller.
Ask the filmmaker how the pandemic break, during which Jeethu has directed Drishyam 2, 12th Man and Kooman, has impacted Ram and he says, “There is definitely a disconnect, because the gap is now over two years. However, during the pandemic break we have scaled up the project. We are busy setting up those developments. The movie will be shot in the Middle East and the UK and I am hoping to leave abroad in a week to scout the locations.”
The team has shot about 60% of the film pre-pandemic in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Jeethu will also be busy with the post-production of Asif Ali’s Kooman. “We have completed the shoot of the movie. We are going to start the film’s post production soon,” he says.
The movie, which marks his first collaboration with Asif Ali, is a pure thriller, he says. “It is also a character driven film and Asif’s role is the major highlight of the film,” says the filmmaker, adding that he doesn’t reveal more about the movie.
Jeethu’s next release will be the mystery film 12th Man, which is a multi-starrer. The film, which will drop on Disney+ Hotstar on May 20, has Mohanlal, Unni Mukundan, Sshivada, Leona Lishoy, Anusree, Anu Sithara, Priyanka Nair, Rahul Madhav, Chandunath, Saiju Kurup and Anu Mohan in pivotal characters. The film, which happens over a course of a day inside a resort, is written by KR Krishnakumar, who has also penned the screenplay for Kooman.
