Even though it looks a distant possibility that theatres would reopen in time for Onam, several movies have already queued for release on OTTs to keep Mollywood audiences happy. While Prithviraj’s Kuruthi has already been announced as August 11 release on Amazon Prime Video, OTTplay has exclusively learnt that Indrans and Sreenath Bhasi’s #Home will drop on the streamer the same week.
A source close to the film’s team confirms to us that the movie’s rights have been bought by Amazon Prime Video and an official announcement is expected from the streaming service in the next few days. #Home, which is directed by Rojin Thomas, will be the streamer’s second Malayalam release during the Onam week.
#Home has Indrans and Sreenath Bhasi playing father and son, respectively. The movie, which was shot after the lockdown restrictions rules were relaxed in Kerala last year, revolves around a technologically-challenged dad.
The movie, which is touted to be a feel-good comedy, has Indrans playing the lead character in an out-and-out commercial film for the first time. The movie has Rahul Subrahmanian as its composer while Neil D’Cunha has cranked the camera.
Rojin had earlier co-directed Philips and the Monkey and helmed the Manju Warrier-starrer Jo and the Boy. #Home is also scripted by the filmmaker, who was earlier set to helm the big budget fantasy thriller Kathanar The Wild Sorcerer, which has Jayasurya in the lead and that was also set to be backed by #Home’s producer Vijay Babu.
Apart from Kuruthi and #Home, more Malayalam movies are expected to be announced for direct-to-OTT release especially during the Onam weekend on various streaming platforms.
