Things are moving so fast in the life of the RJ-turned-actor Abhilash Thapliyal, that he has absolutely no time to even sit and take rest. Just as when he has wrapped up his acting commitments and was ready to take the splurge into new assignments, there came a cracker of a news that, he would be going to the prestigious Cannes Festival.
In an exclusive heartfelt conversation with OTTplay, Abhilash Thapliyal opened out his heart and said, “Even though people say that, ‘Dreams do come true’, I never dreamt of anything like this. The reality is yet to sink in. My career has just got started. And at the start of my career, to get directors like the ones I have worked with or working with, and also to get prestigious projects and to walk the red carpet. Not just walk the red carpet, but to have a film being premiered there, it takes years for people to achieve all this".
He added, "But I am sure that God has been extremely kind to me and also the blessings of my elders and the wishes of my friends. I must have done something good. That’s why it is happening. Otherwise, I don’t think that I am talented enough to be there. We all know that Cannes is the Mecca of film making. It has been happening for years. Hardly, any Hindi film makes the cut. Its pure luck yaar! I call it luck because, I am not a trained actor. There are lots of people out there who are trained actors, but I am not that talented, I know that. I will be representing Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Kennedy’".
When asked about who gave him the first information about him going to Cannes, he said, “Social media of course. And then, there were our producers and also Anurag Kashyap sir. And my first message to Anurag Sir was, “Sir, main toh jaa raha hoon”. That’s when Anurag Sir said, "Not just you, all of us are going”.
And speaking about what he will be wearing, “With actors like me, who have ‘not made the cut’ to be considered by all the designers, it’s kind of fun when I am going through the struggle of finding people to help me out with my costumes. I am just lucky that I got the designer Amandeep Kaur, who has, sort if figured out something for me. ‘Sarab Khanijou’ has made something for me. And, I will be carrying a bit of Uttarakhand with me to Cannes. I would want to keep other details under the wraps till the event”.
And when asked about his role in ‘Kennedy’, pat came the reply, “Yaar, I cannot speak anything about my role at this time. I cannot reveal much about my character. All that I can say is that, my character plays an important part in the story and life of Kennedy”.
When asked about his stay in France after the Cannes Festival, Abhilash said, “I don’t want to enjoy my France trip without my wife. She could not make it as she did not get a visa. Yaar, maine poori zindagi us ladki ke saath guzaari hai. All my ups and downs, my college days, being jobless till getting my first job, she has been with me through thick and thin of my life. I will come back to India and then, take back my wife to France for a trip and also, without fail, show her Cannes Festival’s location and venue.
Speaking about his future projects, he said, “Maidaan’ is there, which will be releasing next month. This will be followed by Navdeep Singh’s 'Shehar Lakhot' and ‘Aspirants 2’.
