Projecting an extended version of their personality on social media has become the norm for celebrities. But Pavail Gulati, who is known for sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Rashmika Mandana, and now Rakul Preet Singh, is different. He does not follow the norm, and one can see that with how irregular he is with his Instagram posts.
He recently opened up to OTTplay about why he is not overtly active on social media. He also spoke about the kind of reaction he got when he posted one bad joke when MS Dhoni stumped Shubham Gill in the IPL 2023 finale.
Considering that the onscreen and public image of an actor is a perception-building exercise that helps their careers, we asked Pavail if such image-building practises reflect on their choice of films.
Pavail told OTTplay, "Now that you are talking about it, I feel a little conscious, and I think my Instagram feed should be a little better, because earlier I did not give it that much thought. To be honest, I have to force myself to post on Instagram. I think that is why I come across as someone who is very serious in life. I think I should post more pictures on social media in which I am smiling. I posted a joke once, for which I got quite the reaction. It was when Dhoni took the wicket of Shubham Gill in the IPL 2023 final match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Gujarat Titans. I wrote, 'Dhoni ne Gill tod diya.' I know it is a bad joke, but it is a fun joke (laughs out loud)."
Making his debut with the TV series Yudh, which gave him the chance to work with Amitabh Bachchan, Pavail carved a niche for himself with films like Ghost Stories, Thappad, Goodbye, and web series like Haq Se, Made in Heaven, Avrodh: The Siege Within, and Faadu.
I Love You revolves around how Pavail's character's relationship with that of Rakul's changes with time — how they go from being colleagues to lovers on a mission to take revenge.
The film is directed by Nikhil Mahajan and is available to stream on JioCinema.
