Exclusive! Faadu - A Love Story actress Saiyami Kher: I always wanted to make it through my struggle and not by any shortcuts

From her debut in 2016 with the Bollywood film Mirzya directed by Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra, actress Saiyami Kher has proven her talent and the amount of potential she holds as an actress with each project. 

One of her performances that got widely appreciated by the audience and critics was Anurag Kashyap's directorial Choked, released in 2020 followed by Unpaused, Special OPS and Breathe: Into the Shadows. 

It is interesting to notice that Saiyami is the nice of Tanvi Azmi, the veteran actress and sister-in-law of Shabana Azmi. She is also the granddaughter of the iconic yesteryear actress Usha Kiran but she never took a chance to use her family connection to bag a project. Rather she always had a hard way to find her opportunity. 

In a special conversation with OTTplay, the actress, who is receiving a lot of love for her performance in the recently released web series Faadu – Not A Love Story shared what working in the industry has been like. 

Saiyami told OTTplay, "Look, my debut film Mirzya was not a superhit film so even though I got a great opportunity to work with some of the great creative minds in my debut film, the journey became very tough afterward. I started working on myself since then, without thinking too much about when will I get my next film. I think whether your film is successful or performed average at the box office, as an actor you have to constantly work on yourself. That's exactly what I have done. Since each project I have got has come to with after a lot of hardship, I feel satisfied with whatever little I have achieved so far. Of course, the journey is very long." 

Asked if she ever thought of using her power of family connection to make it to the film industry and Saiyami shared, "Firstly I have not grown up in an environment where the film was a part of the daily conversation because I lived with my parents in Nasik and not in Mumbai. I came to Mumbai for my college. So I never used the connection to get through anything; it was there in my mind since the beginning that I will go through every struggle to make it here; I am not someone who looks for a shortcut, I am here for the long run." 

The web series Faadu is directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, also features Pavail Gulati, Deepak Sampat, Abhilash Thapliyal and Neeraj Kashyap among others. The show is streaming on SonyLIV.
