Eken Babu promises to be back and how! According to sources close to the team, the Anirban Chakrabarti-led detective franchise that started its journey and a web series on Hoichoi is all set to go bigger in 2024. Here is what we know.
Besides Anirban, there will be Suhotro Mukhopadhyaya and Shomak Ghosh as Bapi and Promotho. Joydeep Mukherjee will continue to direct the franchise. Like every year, there will be two Eken Babu productions – one web series on Hoichoi and a film by SVF. In the last two years, Eken Babu films -- The Eken and Ruddhaswas Rajasthan -- were released during the Bengali New Year celebrations. However, the film will ditch this tradition this time and may see a grand Puja release. There is also a chance of its Christmas release based on when Hoichoi decides to drop season 8 of the web series.
However, according to sources, this delay may result in a grand-scale production outside India. It will be a murder mystery where the victim will suffer from some kind of nerve disease. The original Sujan Dasgupta’s story is set in a country in a Middle Eastern country. However, the shooting there is currently not possible due to the war situation. As a result, the team selected another country and awaiting an NOC from that country. The shooting may take place around June.
On the other hand, the makers are also keen to create a spectacle in terms of writing. “This time, the team is planning to bring some changes so that Eken Babu does not become monotonous,” said the source. Padmanabha Dasgupta, Joydeep, and their team are working on the script.
Evidently, both the web series and the film will be released by the latter half of the year. The preproduction of the web series will start only after the shooting of the film. Meanwhile, before the shooting of Eken Babu, Anirban will be travelling to Kashmir to shoot Bhuswargo Bhoyonkawr – Srijit Mukherji’s new Feluda offering for Hoichoi.
