Anirban Chakrabarti became a household name after his portrayal of Eken Babu on Hoichoi. This year, Anirban bagged the Best Actor in a Comic Role – Series in this year’s OTTplay Awards. The journey that started in 2017 is not all set to step into the seventh season with Tungkulung E Eken Babu. With Suhotro Mukhopadhyay and Somak Ghosh as Bapi and Promotho – Ekendra Sen’s friends – the new season of the quintessential Bengali detective, is set to be dropped on December 8. Before the release, Anirban talked about his journey and experience of working in the latest season.
“Tunkulung is an imaginary village. Many people told me that they actually Googled to find out the location,” quipped Anirban, who is known to be the prankster in their unit. “We have a fun team. Suhotra, Somak, and I get along very well. Joydeepda and his team joined in and we had a gala time despite our tight schedule. When I crack a joke, Suhotra and Somak join me. We have a fun vibe that prevails in our team,” he said.
The shooting took place in Lava and Dooars. The monsoon was in full swing in North Bengal when director Joydeep Mukherjee and his team went to shoot the series. Recalling the days of the shooting, Anirban said, “The shooting was disrupted by the weather. We came back to Kolkata leaving behind some days of shooting. Soon after that, a massive flood took place in Sikkim. After everything settled down, we went to shoot again.”
This is the seventh season of Eken Babu. Besides, there are two films. Isn’t he tired of playing Eken Babu? “Absolutely not. Even this time, I got as excited as I was on the first day of Eken Babu years ago. Moreover, I see my audience getting excited with each season. As long as I see they are excited, I will not get bored. Besides, each Eken series takes me to different places. I enjoy that. However, one day this will come to an end. Maybe there will be no more stories left. Or the audience may stop liking it. I may even stop enjoying my character. That’s far away. As of now, I am super excited,” he said.
Anirban bagged the Best Actor in a Comic Role – Series in this year’s OTTplay Awards in Mumbai this year for playing Eken Babu in Season Six. A joyous actor said, “I have always focused on my work. I am not a party person. I don’t have a manager. My PR skills are godforsaken. Basically, I don’t have anyone to work for me. Hence, whatever recognition I got, I believe, I got them for my work. The OTTplay Award was extra special because it was a national recognition. Winning out of a talented set of people across the country is surely very inspiring. I am touched and honoured.”
