Malayalam actor Dinesh Prabhakar, who played a pivotal role in Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s The Family Man in 2019, is now part of two upcoming webseries – Dongri to Dubai and Baba Black Sheep - both of which will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, the actor revealed the details of the upcoming projects. “I am part of Dongri to Dubai, which is based on the story of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The series is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. It's made on a big scale and I play a crucial role in it. The shoot of the webseries is currently progressing,” he says.

The series, which has Kay Kay Menon and Avinash Tiwary in the lead, is adapted from Hussain Zaidi’s book Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia. The show, directed by Rock On 2 fame Shujaat Saudagar, also has Amyra Dastur and Jitin Gulati.

Meanwhile, Dinesh, who will next be seen in Ajith’s much-awaited action-thriller Valimai that is produced by Boney Kapoor, has also completed filming for Amazon Prime Video’s Baba Black Sheep. “The series, which is a social satire, will release in March and it has a lot of artistes including Divya Dutta and Ashutosh Rana,” he adds.

Apart from the trio, Baba Black Sheep, which is helmed by Airlift and Chef filmmaker Raja Krishna Menon, also has Priyanshu Painyuli and Rukshar Dhillon as part of its cast. Anu Moothedath, who had cranked the camera for Mollywood films such as Jayasurya’s Sufiyum Sujathayum and Fahadh Faasil’s Athiran, is the cinematographer of the series.

Dinesh credits the success of The Family Man for paving the way for more such opportunities in the digital space. “The Family Man happened unexpectedly. I got this call from Mukesh Chabbra’s casting company. When all of us including Neeraj Madhav went to the auditions in Mumbai, we never thought about how big the series would be or the brilliance of its makers Raj and DK. Back then Indian web series weren’t all that popular; the trend picked up with The Family Man. The series also gave me a pan-Indian reach and subsequently these two projects with Amazon Prime Video,” he says.
