Actor and songwriter Dakssh Ajit Singh, who is receiving a lot of love and appreciation for his character Laadi in the web series CAT, explains why his performance was heavily dependent on his co-star, the protagonist of the show, Randeep Hooda.
The actor, who has worked extensively in TV shows and Punjabi films, plays Randeep's character's friend in the web series.
Dakssh told OTTplay, "I think one of the biggest factors in my performance in CAT was my co-star, Randeep paaji. Even though he is a star in Hindi cinema in his own right, he never put that pressure on his fellow actors on set. Since most of my scenes were with Randeep, and it is an equation of two best friends, the camaraderie had to be genuine and not look staged. My performance could have gone unnoticed or be overshadowed if Randeep paaji was not such a giving co-star."
The actor also mentioned how easy-going Randeep was during the shooting of the show.
"Before we started working, he sat with me and said, 'Ek dum befiqar ho ke kaam karenge, koi tension nahi. We are playing friends on-screen, lekin dosti yehi se shuru!' I think such words somewhere put me at ease and I eventually bonded really well with Randeep paaji. In the North, he is an inspiration for many, including myself," shared the Maryada: Lekin Kab Tak? actor.
Set in rural Punjab, the story of CAT revolves around a man, Gurnam Singh, who worked as a CAT police officer during the insurgency of 1990 in Punjab, and is now in the process of saving his brother from drug peddling. He starts working as a spy to eradicate the drug business affecting the youth of Punjab. As he starts working toward the mission, some truth from the past comes out about his parents' death and that triggers Gurnam to take revenge.
CAT is created by Balwinder Singh Janjua, and directed by Balwinder Singh Janjua, Rupinder Chahal and Jimmy Singh. It also features Suvinder Vicky, Hasleen Kaur, Geeta Aggarwal, Danish Sood, Jaipreet Singh, Sukhwinder Chahal, KP Singh and Kavya Thapar, among others. It is streaming on Netflix.
