Exclusive! Brinda: I realized that direction isn't an easy job during the second wave of COVID-19

Veteran dance choreographer Brinda made her directorial debut recently with Hey Sinamika, which stars Dulquer Salmaan, Kajal Aggarwal and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles. The romantic drama evoked hype among movie buffs ever since the project was announced two years ago.

The movie hit the screens on March 3 in Tamil and Telugu, and opened to mixed reviews. Mirchi Vijay, Nakshatra Nagesh and Yogi Babu are a few actors who essayed notable characters in the film which received appreciation for the performance from lead actors, cinematography by Preetha Jayaraman and background score by Govind Vasantha.  

In fact, one of the reasons the film joined the list of much-awaited Tamil projects this year is because of the music by Govind. In an exclusive chat with us, Brinda said, "I have been a great fan of his ever since 96 released. The attraction of Hey Sinamika as far as songs are concerned, is the unique style Govind has come up with for each song. All the songs belong to different genres. The background score, too, stands out. I would say he gave life to the screenplay's proceedings."

The movie was released two years after it went on floors. In fact, the makers' plan was to release the movie in theatres a year ago. Quiz her on how COVID affected the film's shooting and post production works, and she replied, "Pulling off such a movie which featured several artists was no mean feat. We couldn't have done this without the cooperation of artists who were generous of turning up on sets as and when we requested them to."

She added, "We had wrapped up the shooting in November 2020. The second wave of the pandemic was quite unexpected and we had to wait a lot. I realized that direction isn't an easy job. I understood how difficult it is to manage each and every department even after the movie's shooting was complete.
