Even though Kathal is a comedy-drama, the story addresses a strong social issue. And that is the interpretation of actor Anant V Joshi, who plays Constable Saurabh Dwivedi in the film.

When asked how he nabbed the project, Anant told OTTplay, "I got the part by auditioning for it. All I knew about the film was its name, because it is about the disappearance of a jackfruit. This very idea of the film was really funny to me, but eventually, after reading the script, I realised how well-crafted the script is. Yes, it is a comedy, but it is more than that. It is about the social divide, power struggles, the police system, and more. I loved the overall story as an audience member."

The film has received positive reviews from audiences, so has this paved the way for more interesting offers for Anant? "It is too early to think of opportunities, but I have received a lot of messages from people appreciating my work in the film, and I am happy with that," he said.

Set in a small town, the story of Kathal revolves around a missing jackfruit from the garden of an MLA and how the police get involved to find the thief and decode the mysterious disappearance of the fruit.

Kathal is directed by Yashowardhan Mishra, written by Ashok Mishra, and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Sikhya Entertainment. It also stars Sanya Malhotra, Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Neha Saraf, and Raghubir Yadav.

The film is available to stream on Netflix.
