The movie, which began shooting recently, also has Chemban Vinod Jose and Hakkim Shajahan in pivotal roles

Actress Amala Paul has picked a rooted-to-reality role to make her Malayalam comeback after five years with Athiran director Vivek’s The Teacher, which went on floors in Thangassery, Kollam, a few days ago.
Talking to OTTplay about the film, Vivek tells us, “It’s a new-age, edgy thriller that I wrote during the first lockdown. I believe it has got all the aesthetics for a riveting film.” The film, which is based on Vivek’s story, is co-scripted by him and Take Off writer PV Shajikumar.
On Amala’s character in the movie, the director says, “She does play a teacher, but I can’t reveal what kind of teacher right now. It’s something we want to divulge with the first look poster in a week’s time. However, it’s not a role that she has played before. She essays a Kollam native in the movie. It also has an ideology from Munrothuruthu and covers the hills of Thenmala. It’s a rooted movie that showcases the lives of common people.”
Apart from Amala, the movie also has Chemban Vinod Jose, Hakkim Shajahan, Anumol, Prashanth Murali, Nandu and Maala Parvathi in pivotal roles. “Chemban chettan has an intriguing character in it,” says Vivek.
Hakkim, who is noted for his performances in the Tamil movie Kadaseela Biriyani and Aishwarya Lekshmi’s Archana 31 Not Out, also has an important role. “I had actually auditioned him for a role in Athiran, but that time I couldn’t give him a character that justified his talents. There are two more surprise characters we haven’t revealed yet,” says Vivek, who is co-producing the movie with Hyderabad-based Varun Tripuraneni and Abhishek Ramishetti.
Anu Moothedath is the cinematographer of The Teacher, which has music composed by Don Vincent. Meanwhile, Amala is also part of Prithviraj Sukumaran and Blessy’s Aadujeevitham in Malayalam and is awaiting the release of her forensic investigative thriller Cadaver in Tamil.
