Esha Deol and her husband Bharat Takhtani announced their divorce after 12 years of marriage. The couple stated in a joint statement that they are "amicably" separating. Esha is the daughter of Dharmendra and Hema Malini, a Bollywood couple.
“We have mutually and amicably decided to part ways," the statement issued to Delhi Times reads. "Through this shift in our lives, the best interests and welfare of our two children is and will be of utmost importance to us. We’d appreciate our privacy is respected,” it further read. In 2012, Esha and Bharat tied the knot. They are parents to daughters Radhya, 6, and Miraya, 4.
Esha and Bharat commemorated their wedding anniversary in June of last year, and Esha wished her husband on social media with a few pictures. “For keeps for eternity ♥️🧿 @bharattakhtani3 #weddinganniversary #11 gratitude ♥️”, she wrote in the caption. But when Bharat was absent from both Esha's and Hema Malini's birthday celebrations last year, rumors regarding their split started to circulate.
How did Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani meet?
During an interschool competition, Bharat and Esha—who attended separate schools—came into contact. The actress previously discussed her love story in an interview with News18. She stated that Bharat was studying at Learner's Academy in Bandra, and she was at Jamnabai Narsee School. "That was one school that had good-looking boys in Bandra. We met at the inter-school competition called Cascade which was hosted by my school," she said.
The actress went on to say that she gave him a piece of tissue with her phone number written on it. Esha reminisced about her braces-wearing days, saying he thought she was adorable and genuinely liked her. She then revealed that although they kept in touch throughout college, their relationship ended when she turned 18 and began her professional career. Ten years later, Esha and Bharat reconnected and resumed their romantic relationship.
The couple had a private traditional wedding ceremony on June 29, 2012, at the ISKCON temple in Mumbai.
