Investigative thrillers with police officers battling personal tragedies are nothing new to Malayalis. Abraham Ozler, which was recently released, employed a similar plot device in which the investigating officer dealt with the mysterious disappearance of his wife and daughter as well as a string of murders occurring in the area.

If you liked this Jayaram-starrer, here's a list of other films in which police officers dealt with personal losses.

John Luther (ManoramaMax & aha)

John Luther is a Circle Inspector assigned to Munnar. John is fighting with two goons from a different high-profile case when one of them hits the left side of his ears, seriously hurting him and eventually leading to hearing loss. After his return, John keeps looking for a serial killer. Even though the movie did not receive a great deal of praise from viewers, it was commended for having a compelling story that moved at a steady pace. Given that John Luther is making his long-awaited cop appearance, Jayasurya's fans will undoubtedly be pleased.

Heaven (Disney+ Hotstar)

Circle Inspector Peter Kurishinkal is searching for the people who killed his son Sebin. When he is assigned a sensational murder case in which Sebin was also killed, his entire world turns upside down. In this film, Suraj Venjaramoodu plays Peter Kurinshinkal. There are enough twists and poignant scenes in this investigative thriller to keep viewers interested. It was billed as a slow-burning movie with some subtle acting.

Twenty One Gms (Disney+ Hotstar)

Deputy Superintendent Nanda Kishore of the Police Crime Branch leads a melancholic life with his spouse following the death of their only daughter. Nandan is investigating the death of Anjali, which is officially classified as a homicide. The day after Anjali's death, her brother Martin is also found dead in the same flat where she was murdered. After its digital premiere, the film garnered praise for its gripping narrative despite its lacklustre performance at the box office. A captivating storyline with minimal lag makes Twenty One Gms worthwhile to watch once.

Memories (Disney+ Hotstar)

Sam Alex, a special police officer in Kerala, is largely reliant on alcohol to help him cope with the death of his family. In front of his eyes, his enemy killed his wife and daughter. His superior officer asks Sam to conduct a parallel investigation into a case involving the murder of several young men in the town. Prithviraj Sukumaran gave one of his best performances in a movie as Sam Alex. The movie unquestionably demonstrates director Jeethu Joseph's outstanding ability for crafting suspenseful thrillers.

Villain (Sun NXT)

The protagonist of the tale is ADGP Mathew Manjooran, a senior IPS officer, who takes a break and then re-enlists to work on a final case, involving a string of related murders. After initially being reluctant to assist the police, Mathew ultimately chooses to take up the case. The audience praised Mohanlal's portrayal of someone who can conceal their pain after experiencing a personal tragedy. Along with revealing the truth behind a string of murders, the makers of the movie have attempted to include additional stirring elements.
