We had earlier reported that music composer Santhosh Narayanan made a revelation that he, along with the other artists involved in the making of Enjoy Enjaami, did not receive any earnings from the song which had taken the internet by storm when it first released in March 2021. While many began to blame composer AR Rahman who is the face of maajja, the platform which released Enjoy Enjaami, Santhosh clarified his stance on the matter.
Santhosh came in support of Rahman and in a long post on X (formerly Twitter), said that he will fight for indie artists and highlighted their plight. It is to be noted that Enjoy Enjaami is a byproduct of rapper-lyricist Arivu, singer Dhee, and Santhosh Narayanan. Enjoy Enjaami is based on the story of Arivu's grandmother, Valliamal who was a plantation worker and had to leave to Ceylon in search of livelihood. The song became an instant hit and chartbuster once it was released.
After Santhosh Narayanan claimed that no indie artists involved in Enjoy Enjaami were given their due share of revenue, including himself, many on social media began to blame Rahman for the same. It is to be noted that Rahman acts as the face of maajja, the platform which released the song.
Clarifying this, Santhosh in a long posted credited Rahman to be his "pillar of support without expectations" amid the fiasco with maajja. The composer also added that Rahman too is a "victim of many false promises and malice". Santhosh further wrote, "Many indie artists including Arivu, Svdp, Dhee and many others including myself have also never been remitted our revenues in any form and have been bullied with emails. I understand that emotions are high and would urge you all to support the indie artists in this juncture.” Iterating that he will check with his close associate and filmmaker Pa Ranjith and rapper Arivu, Santhosh said that he wishes that all indie artists are given their fair due.
On Tuesday, Santhosh, who celebrated three years of the song, made some shocking revelations. He claimed that though they were approached with owning the full rights, revenues and royalties from this song, they have not been paid any penny since then by the label. He also added that his YouTube channel has been stolen and the label has been receiving the revenue. AR Rahman and maajja are yet to talk about their stance on the issue.
